Privacy policy

HW DESIGNS LLC (“HW Designs”, “we”) is a small company in New Orleans, Louisiana. This policy explains what information we handle across everything we run: this website (hwdesigns.us), our documentation site (docs.hwdesigns.us), our products, email with us, and the Review Tap Sign service.

The short version: we keep as little information as possible. We do not sell it, share it for advertising, or send newsletters.

1. This website and our documentation site

  • They have no forms, no accounts, no cookies, and no analytics or advertising trackers.
  • Our hosting providers keep short-term technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) to run and protect the sites: Cloudflare for hwdesigns.us, and GitHub Pages for docs.hwdesigns.us.
  • Links to stores and other sites (for example Amazon, Crowd Supply or GitHub) take you to those sites, and their own privacy policies apply there.

2. When you email us

  • We use your email address and what you send us (including any photos) only to answer you and support your product.
  • Our email runs on Google Workspace.
  • We keep support emails while they are useful for helping you, and delete them when you ask.

3. When you buy our products

  • We sell through stores such as Amazon and Crowd Supply. The store handles your payment and shipping details under its own privacy policy. We never see your payment card.
  • The store may share limited order details with us (for example, which product was ordered) so that we can support it.

4. Our products

  • Pet products do not collect or send any information.
  • Development boards do not send any information to us. Example and demo firmware may connect to outside services that you set up; for example, the weather-clock demo sends the city you enter to the Open-Meteo weather service, directly from your own network. Those services’ own policies apply.
  • Review Tap Sign works through our web service, described in section 5.

5. Review Tap Sign service

We keep as little information as possible. We do not sell it, share it for advertising, or send newsletters.

5.1 What we store about sign owners

  • your email address;
  • your sign's code and the page it points to (business name, link and, for Google, the Place ID);
  • when the sign was activated or changed;
  • tap counts for the sign (how many taps, and the time of the most recent one).

5.2 What we store about people who tap a sign

  • Nothing that identifies them. A tap only adds one to the sign's counter, and the visitor is sent straight to the owner's chosen page.
  • After that, the chosen site's own privacy policy applies (for example Google or Yelp).

5.3 Technical information

  • Login links and sessions: the "manage your sign" email link works once and expires after 30 minutes. Opening it sets one small cookie (hwd_session) that keeps you signed in for up to 30 minutes. It is needed for the page to work; we use no advertising or tracking cookies.
  • Abuse protection: to stop spam, we briefly count requests per email address and per internet (IP) address. These counters reset every hour.
  • Server logs: our hosting provider, Cloudflare, keeps short-term technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) to run and protect the service.

5.4 Business search

When you type a business name during setup, the text and your approximate area (city level, worked out from your internet connection) are sent to Google to show matching businesses. Google's privacy policy applies to that search. Our pages also load fonts from Google Fonts.

5.5 How long we keep it

  • Owner information: while your sign is active, or until you ask us to delete it.
  • Used or expired login links: deleted within about a day. Sessions end after 30 minutes. Abuse counters reset every hour.

5.6 Your choices

  • See or change where your sign points: hwdesigns.us/manage.
  • Delete your information: email support@hwdesigns.us from your sign's email address. We will delete it within 30 days. The sign then returns to "not set up" and can be activated again.
  • Questions about your information: support@hwdesigns.us.

6. Service providers we use

  • Cloudflare — hosting for this website and the Review Tap Sign service, including its database (data stored in the United States);
  • GitHub — hosting for our documentation site;
  • Google Workspace — our email;
  • Google — business search in the Review Tap Sign setup, and fonts on the Review Tap Sign pages;
  • Resend — sending Review Tap Sign emails.

They process information only to provide their service to us.

7. Your choices

  • To see, correct or delete information we hold about you, email support@hwdesigns.us. We will answer within 30 days.

8. Children

Our websites and services are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is important, we will email Review Tap Sign owners before it takes effect.
